Treasure in Clay Jars

--

How does one capture the light
within the confines of an old clay jar?
How can a plain brown paper bag
dare to suggest the right to hold
eternal glory within its folds:
the treasure of infinite wealth,
love strong enough to buy back from death
and clean the heart and wash the rag
covered soul and a body that’s scarred?
The blind receive the gift of sight
and freedom from eternal night.

A chiastic poem in tetrameter (abc ddee cba a). Chiasm is derived from the Greek letter Chi (“X”) which represents a mirrored image.
