To paraphrase what has been said by many theologians in the past up until today:

God is like Jesus.
God has always been like Jesus.
There never was a time when God was not like Jesus.
God will always be like Jesus.

What was Jesus like?

He would hunt down the lost sheep, tirelessly sweep out creation to find the lost coin, run to hug and welcome the rebellious son, and patiently reason with the arrogant bigoted older brother and still invite him to the party.

God would rather allow his creation to kill him rather than to take vengeance on them.

He would rather give his life to rescue his creation rather than condemn his creation.

A God too pure to look on sin? He carried it to the cross. He let it burn itself out killing him.

Someone important said that God of the OT is a vengeful god. Jesus was not vengeful.
