I’m going to have to call “foul” here. That’s not completely accurate. “Catholic” was no more a proper name during the time of Ignatius any more than “church of Christ” was a proper name during the time of Paul (Romans 16:16) or “Baptist” during the time of John the baptizer.


“Catholic” merely means “universal”. At that time it was not a proper name.
