I’m 64 and my wife is my senior (that’s all I am going to reveal about her age!)

Fifty-one’s old? Yeesch!

I often joke in public presentations, “Yes, I am older than dirt — that’s what happens when you keep living.” But honestly, I don’t feel any different than I did at 30 (well, I hope I’m making wiser decisions…)

I do think it’s a matter of mind-set and fear. Old age is a natural part of our development — we can approach it with a sense of fearful inevitability or with inevitable excitement. I choose the latter.

Love those laugh lines! Embrace the white hair and spend your time giving yourself away to others — especially younger people. Believe me, many are looking for friendships with older people who can give a different perspective.

I have a mentor in his eighties that is still sought out for advice and wisdom. He is humble and is never tired of learning new things. I remember a couple of years ago spending a day with him. He was at the end of a book he had been reading — he hadn’t read the epilogue yet, so he hands me his Kindle (after recommending the book) and asks me to read it out loud to him. Occasionally, he would stop me and say, “read that again…isn’t that wonderful?!”

It was one of the most delightful days I’ve experienced.

That’s how I wish to age…
