I am an avid reader who read LOTR several times through during my high school years. My grad degree is in biblical text—the BIble isn’t a book, per se but a collection of Ancient Near Eastern Literature and made up of several literary genres—so my bet he approached the entire text as a single type of literature rather than examples of poetry, parable, theatre, and personal correspondence that it is (the critique of “Empire” known as Revelation is one of the most powerful examples of ancient poetic literature available). Ah, I digress…
