Love Plough—one of my favorites.

Good thoughts all around.

Point of divergence—Honestly, I don’t believe Paul had bouts of misogyny—nor do I believe the difficult passages about women were from other writers. I think our interpretations of those texts are the problem.

Paul is dealing with a specific problem in a specific context and location. He is not addressing all people for all time. In 1 Timothy he addresses novice Christian women (or perhaps a specific woman) who may have been a convert from Artemis —Eve was deceived, not because of her sex but because she was uninformed. These women were to learn quietly (an attitude of humility)—which *all* new disciples (men and women) are to exhibit.

This isn’t “women can’t lead” this is more “baby Christians shouldn’t lead because they, like Eve, can be deceived due to lack of training and experience.”
