Ehrman is a good scholar. However, I agree with you. Part of “being raised with Christ” that Ehrman seems to ignore (perhaps due to his prejudice) is that Paul can use the same language but in one instance be referring to something metaphorically when in the other instance he refers to it literally. We do this all of the time. I can refer to a temple as a literal structure or I can refer to a temple to describe a group of people (“the temple of God”).
Sometimes it seems like people cannot recognize that the biblical authors are not one dimensional cut out characters. It’s probably due to an over exposure of flannelgraph as a kid. 😎
